Forbes NSW

Forbes is a 15 mins drive from Parkes. Forbes a distinctive creative vibe. A town terrific for boutique shopping and all things lake. Fishing & boating on the lake or with Lake Forbes Ski dam is ideal for water skiing, wake boarding and inflatables. Sculptures Down the Lachlan – Larger than Life sculptures. Based on a concept like Sculptures by the Sea (but permanent) the trail stretches from Forbes to Condobolin along the Lachlan Valley Way and is still growing. See multiple GIANT sculptures including a Goanna, a Wiradjuri man, Kangaroo with cricket bat and the red “amazing” sign, in bush surrounds. Taking around 1 hour to drive without stopping from Parkes to Condobolin.

Utes in the Paddock, Condobolin: Is one hour drive from Parkes. Utes in the paddock is a unique art installation of 17 Holden Utes painted by some of Australia’s best outback artists. The installations are located on a 25-acre block of land on the Gipps Way, Condobolin. The exhibition is quirky and quintessentially Australian.

Western Plains Zoo Dubbo: Is 1hr drive from Parkes. Offers a safari adventure with over 300 hectares to explore and over 500 animals. Walk, bike or drive your way around the 5.5km. This zoo is like no other.

Orange Winery Trial: The Orange wine region is 1hr drive from Parkes. Starting with the Vineyard Hillside Harvest and Heifer Station on the Escort Way. Orange is known for cool climate wines that are crips and sharp The top varieties being produced Shiraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon  & Merlot.
